About DEFRA’s Poultry Grant
DEFRA’s Laying Hen Housing for Health and Welfare Grant has been introduced to support farmers in England who house 1,000 or more birds in upgrading or redeveloping their facilities to deliver health and welfare benefits and be more environmentally sustainable, efficient, and innovative.
Their financial support for comprehensive projects ranges from £15,000 to £500,000. The projects include upgrades such as roof mounted Solar PV systems to help poultry farmers #AchieveElectricityFreedom, as well as multi-tier housing, LED lighting and mechanical ventilation.
What does your project need to be successful?
- It will improve laying hen and pullet health and welfare

If your project meets these criteria, it will likely be accepted, but its chances of success will be improved with a solar panel installation.
